Things To Do In The Napa Valley When You Are All Wined Out.

Those of you who have read my articles before know how crazy I am about the Napa Valley. It is absolutely GORGEOUS!

And that takes nothing away from the other wine growing regions of California, they are great too. I just happen to really like the Napa Valley and its wines. Over 3 million people come to the valley each year to savor wine, relax and get away.

So, after an intense day or two of tours and tastings, what do you do?

If you pack too much into your trip, you may want to just sit back and relax a bit and do something other than just more wine tasting.

Well, the Napa Valley has you well taken care of!

Hiking trails, museums, art galleries, discount outlet malls, golf, tennis, horse back riding, historic buildings, historic state parks, spas, ballooning and much more.

Take an afternoon and visit historic Robert Louis Stevenson state park.

Do a round of golf at Kennedy Golf Course (one of several courses).

See the history of the Napa Valley at the Napa Valley Museum.

In Calistoga you can visit the Calistoga Geyser and relax in a delightful hot geyser spring spa.

Don't want to travel all the way to Calistoga from Napa? There are several excellent spas in Napa, Yountville and St. Helena.

Or, you can combine a bit of wine tasting with art. Visit the Hess Collection to see their art gallery and savor their fine wine.

Artesa is "the jewel of the Napa Valley", sitting high on a hill, looking out over the Carneros region towards San Francisco, just 10
minutes from downtown Napa and feels like you are miles away. Here's a secret - after your tasting, walk out on the back porch and
see gorgeous vistas of rolling hills. On a clear day you can see almost all the way to San Francisco. Artesa is built into the top
of a hill. It has wonderful fountains. It really is a jewel.

Cuvaison is another winery with art.

Looking for spectacular architecture? Visit Chateau Montelena, Darioush or Niebaum Coppola.

Copia - The American Center For Wine Foods and the Arts is an educational look into the history and culture of art, food and wine.

There is just so much you can do that you don't need to spend all of your time doing tours and tastings.

The single most important thing to remember? Relax and enjoy your stay. There is lots to do in Napa and it will still be here when you come back for another visit.

Health Benefits In Drinking Wine

Drinking wine has several advantages today other than its great taste. Several studies have shown that drinking wine can also be very healthy for you. Scientific research on the health benefits of drinking wine has been extensive over the past decade. These studies suggest a number of positive effects that drinking wine can have on your health.

Researchers have shown that drinking wine, in moderation, can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Studies show it keeps your heart beating in a more healthy rhythm. Researchers found that women in particular with heart disease who drank wine had an increase in heart rate variability, which is a marker of the changes in time intervals between heartbeats. It is known that a decrease in the heart rate variability has been linked to a higher risk of heart disease that can lead to death.

Researchers say that wine increases your HDL (good cholesterol) levels thus decreasing the risk of heart disease. This along with the effect the heart rate variability may be one more reason why drinking wine reduces the risk of heart disease and heart-related deaths. Wine has also been found to affect favorably the body's adsorption of antioxidants in food and helps metabolize fat more efficiently.

A study done in the journal "Heart", studied 102 women under the age 75 who survived a heart attack or heart surgery to clear blocked arteries. During their recovery period, the participants were asked to chronicle how much and what kind of alcohol they consumed. One year later, researchers used a heart monitor to measure the women's heart activity over a 24-hour period as they went through their normal daily activities. The study showed that heart rate variability was the highest among women who drank at least half a glass of wine per day and lowest among women who drank no alcohol at all.

As the studies show, drinking wine can definitely be a health benefit.

Additional Health Benefits in Drinking Red Wine

Studies show drinking red wine in particular may have additional benefits on your health. Researches show red wine can decrease the risk of coronary heart disease, lung and prostate cancers, dementia, stroke, diabetes, macular degeneration, kidney stones and osteoporosis. A recent Spanish study even implies drinking red wine may even help fight off the common cold.

For optimal health benefits, drink small amounts of wine daily as part of a meal. Remember as in all things, drinking in moderation is always the healthiest. So go ahead and savor the taste of drinking wine while enjoying the health benefits it can have on your life.

Unique Pepper Nasal Spray Beats Wine Headaches & Hang-overs

The world's first natural hot pepper nasal spray is gaining a huge reputation for relieving chronic sinus ailments and headaches across the world, but it turns out this "HOT" new nasal spray also beats alcohol headaches and hang-overs.

Altamont, NY April 26, 2004 -- Since its' official release barely six months ago, the Sinus Buster capsaicin nasal spray has become a worldwide phenomenon. The Sinus Buster is the worlds' first nasal spray made with all natural hot pepper extract, and it's been proven to relieve chronic sinus, allergy, and headache symptoms for thousands of people.

In fact, the Sinus Buster has the honor of being one of the few products in the natural health industry to actually be recommended by a growing number of doctors. These doctors include ENTs, Neurologists, and Allergists.

"The more people who buy Sinus Buster, the more we keep finding out what it's capable of. When we started out with this formula, the intent was to market it as the ulimate migraine headaches stopper - period. But then we started finding out the sinus buster was relieving chronic allergies, and all kinds of sinus ailments including infections. This is what our customers began reporting back to us. We've even had a few dozen customers who claim the sinus buster cured their anosmia -- that's the condition when people lose their sense of smell. It's just amazing - everytime we turn around we get another story from somebody finding a new use for the sinus buster," boasts Wayne Perry, President of SiCap Industries, makers of the Sinus Buster nasal spray.

It seems Perry isn't exaggerating either. Lately there have been many stories coming in from people who say the Sinus Buster is becoming big with the bar crowd. It turns out this unique nasal spray is a "morning after" hang-over chaser that can't be beat. Jay Bowlen, a contractor from Pittsfield, Massachusetts uses the Sinus Buster whenever he's recovering from a wild night out.

"It doesn't just get rid of the headache. It also clears everything out and it wakes me right up. After a night of partying...when I finally roll out of bed, I use it in the shower and I'm good to go. It's great stuff, says Bowlen.

But the Sinus Buster's connection with booze doesn't just stop with hang-overs. The Sinus Buster is also known to stop wine headaches in their tracks. For many people that's an important selling point because although the percentage is small, there are many wine lovers who get headaches from their beloved beverage.

It's known as the "Red Wine Headache", because it appears to be red wine that causes most wine headaches. Medical researchers don't know much at all about this syndrome mainly because the research dollars just aren't there, and it's something the big wine makers just don't want publicized. In June 2002, The Harvard Health Letter reported "the red wine headache is a real and poorly understood phenomenon."

For instance, many people believe the government warning labels on wine that read, "contains sulfites" are there to warn people of possible headaches, but it's actually to warn the 1% of the population who are allergic to sulfites. In truth, the medical community simply doesn't have any real answers concerning the cause of wine headaches, but it seems the Sinus Buster has an answer when it comes to the solution.

"I'm Italian and I love my red wine, but every once in a while I get a wine headache and it's total agony. Just like a migraine. I know it's some kind of allergy because I also get stuffed up, but the only answer my doctor had was to not drink wine anymore. Then one night I was out with a friend and I started to get a wine headache. She told me to use this hot pepper nasal spray. She was using this stuff for her migraines, and she said it worked. Boy did it ever. My headache went away in a few seconds, and I could breath again right away. I drank wine all night that night and never had another headache. Now I take the sinus buster with me whenever I'm going out to drink, says Gina Mitchell of Catskill, New York.

Yet another connection between the Sinus Buster and wine is its' growing popularity in well regarded wine tasting circles. It turns out this hot pepper nasal spray is also good for cleansing the pallet by waking up the nerves inside the nose that control the senses of smell and taste. Many wine connoisseurs say one little shot of the Sinus Buster allows the user to experience the very essence of the wine the way it was meant to be experienced.

Samples of the Sinus Buster are available for verifiable accredited media and medical professionals upon request by using the contact information that accompanies this release.

Innovative Kitchen Decorating Idea Brings the Look of Oil Paintings Into Your Kitchen ARADesigner dishwasher panels are created from original oil paintings and reproduced on high quality vinyl. They will make a truly unique gift ideas for practically any occasion.

Tilghman Island, MD April 26, 2004 - The kitchen has long been the very core of any house. From your childs birthday party with countless kids making their own ice cream sundaes to office holiday functions where entertaining the boss turns into a demonstration on the proper way to stuff a duck, the age-old saying holds true: Everybody ends up in the kitchen. So why then dont we take the time to create a true living space within this all-important area of our house?

Dishwasher Creations founder Kimberly Bushey asked herself that same question. When I took a look at my dishwasher, it was just a white panel with a plain face. I believe the reverse side had an almond finish, but either way there was not much imagination at all. The dimensions of the dishwasher panel area seemed to be the perfect space for a work of art. So thats exactly what I decided to put there: real artwork.

With the help of her mother-in-law, impressionistic artist Maureen Bannon, Bushey created several designer dishwasher panels that bring the look of oil paintings into the kitchen. From soothing beach scenes to sophisticated wine coolers to whimsical barnyard hens, these pieces of kitchen art are created from Bannons own actual oil painting compositions then transferred onto durable vinyl with such detail the brushstrokes are still visible.

A light adhesive on the back allows the panels to be used and removed easily without damage to the appliance. Designer dishwasher panels clean up quickly with mild soap and water, and are UV protected to resist fading for up to three years.

A designer dishwasher panel is the perfect piece of kitchen art for any cooks domain. They also make truly unique gift ideas for practically any occasion, states Bushey.

Dishwasher Creations can be found online at www.dishwashercreations.com. Each panel costs $79.95 plus shipping and any applicable sales tax. For additional information, please visit Dishwasher Creations website

The Unknown of the Organic Wines

The idea of a career hit them in a restaurant in London, as they saw on the wine list the description of a "hangover-free alternative" type of wine. Shelley Breckenridge and Lynsey Watson who were at that time involved in careers of the field of customer services and financial management, decided to create their own website, Vine Organic.

Based in Glasgow, the site is dedicated only to the selling chemical-free and biodynamic wines. Breckenridge and Lynsey Watson who are both fascinated by wines, share the idea that "Organic wines have an earthy natural quality that you don't find in conventional wine. The aromas are superior, the palates have better fruit intensity and purer flavours".

In a mission in Scotland, at the present, Breckenridge and Watson want to prove that organic wines have the same quality as the natural wines do. They plan to back up their theory by analysing the characteristics of 91 wines from 11 different countries.

The two passionate wine persons have chosen to set up a trading deal with English-based Vintage Roots company, in order to not waste their time on negotiating contracts with wineries, directly. Therefore, they picked only a couple of wines to be the Vine Organic exclusive, such as Vin de Pays d'Oc Sauvignon Blanc and some other wines, sold to restaurants in Glasgow and Aberdeen.

The minuses of the website are that there is no actual definition about what an organic wine is and the creation of Breckenridge and Watson seems to be a little cluttered since they provide no information about the founders-aspect which might be considered important by the customers.
Some tips from the taste test made by Breckenridge and Watson
At the category of fizz wines, the Cava Brut 21 Albet y Noya, at the price of ?12.49 has a yeasty biscuity aroma, chalky creamy texture, but finishes very bitter.
Among the white category, there is Rheinhessen Kabinett Riesling Trocken 2005 Weingut Klaus Knobloch, at the price of ?6.99. This starts well, with light floral bouquet, fleshy lush fruit palate, but this German white falls well short on the finish.
Other white wine is Domaine St Paul Sauvignon sur Lie and it costs ?6.49. It is clean, refreshing southern French Vin de Pays, lacking Loire's minerality. Also it has a light creamy body, being a very easy French quaffing aperitif.
At the red category, there is Thistle Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 which costs ?17.49. This wine it is unbalanced, old, tired and past its sell-by date - an over-priced Aussie red.
Buenas Ondas Malbec 2005 is another red wine, and it will cost you ?6.99. You will buy therefore, a rich damson fruits wine, very young tight- knit fruits, some depth to palate, earthy notes; a good value quaffing red from Argentina.
Also a red wine is Coyam 2003 which can be found at the price of ?11.99. This is very spicy, tight austere Chilean Bordelais blend and rich concentrated fruits, spoilt by an astringent finish.
As an argument for why did the Breckenridge and Watson have chosen to made this study, Breckenridge said that more and more high quality vineyards are becoming certified. However, among the wine producers there are many who are choosing the organically method but in the same time, they just do not bother to certify and label them as such. On this kind of actual situation, Breckenridge and Watson are willing to sell only certified wines, even if that means that the choice of quality wines available for them to list is still rather limited.

Stanthorpe - Queenslands Wine Capital

Stanthorpe is a picturesque town known for its amazing national parks, historical buildings and wineries, located on the New England Highway close to the New South Wales border. It has become more popular over the last few years as a tourist destination with so many rural activities and sightseeing options available.

There are a large number of bed and breakfasts if you are stopping over for a night or two, and self contained cottages are available for a longer stay. Black Creek Mountain Cabins are a unique accommodation option, located five minutes south of Stanthorpe.

The locals of Stanthorpe experience the four seasons of the year, which is not common to Queensland. Winter is a fantastic time to visit, and with low temperatures, a popular retreat is in front of a roaring fireplace with local wine and great food. Make sure you pack your scarf and mittens as there is even the occasional snowfall.

With such high altitudes the frosts are perfect for excellent grape harvests, and perfect wines. There are over 50 wineries in the Stanthorpe district on the Granite Belt as well as stone fruit and apple orchards.

There is so much to see and do in Stanthorpe, with vineyards such as Bald Mountain Vineyards, Aventine Wines and Kooroomba Vineyard and lavender farm all deserving a visit. North of Stanthorpe is also the famous Old Caves winery. Winery tours are popular, and each year in August the famous Jazz in the Vineyard is attended by almost 1000 people each year. Opera in the Vineyard, held in May, also promises to be an amazing cultural experience.

In February, the Apple and Grape festival is held every second year, along with the Food and Wine Festival. With Mediterranean food on the main menu and a favourite with the locals, it has all ingredients for a memorable cuisine experience.

You cant miss the Historical Society Museum, located in the town centre, with a shearers hut, preserved school and goal, along with interesting artefacts from the mid 1800's.

The four major national parks surrounding the city provide an unspoilt wilderness beckoning you to drive further on and explore at your own pace. Easily accessible by car, each park offers a contrasting experience.

Girraween National Park is perfect for bushwalkers of all levels, with picturesque walking trails ranging from 25 minutes to six hour hikes. With massive granite rock formations, wildflowers in Spring and eucalypt forests, it is a nature lovers dream. Girraween is easy to find if you take the turnoff from the New England Highway at Wyberba.

Bald Rock National Park is famous for its name, Bald Rock, which is Australia's largest exposed granite rock. With magnificent views, rock formations and bushwalks this park is accessible from the Mt Lindsey Highway, 39 km from Stanthorpe. Camping areas are available.

Boonoo Boonoo National Park is well known for its river system and impressive waterfall. Take a picnic lunch and relax for an afternoon by the rock pool that is above the cascading falls, and surrounded by open forest and lush vegetation.

Sundown National Park is located on the Queensland/New South Wales border. You can leave your car at the entrance of the park and then travel by foot to experience the remote wilderness. There are steep gorges, rainforest and waterways and there are places to picnic, camp, swim and just relax and enjoy the amazing birdlife and beauty of the park. You can also explore the impressive Red Rock Falls, Mt Lofty, Red Rock Gorge and Carpenter Gully.

More than just a stopover, Stanthorpe is a unique and relaxing destination and perfect for your car hire holiday.

Wine Regulations in the United States

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms established American Viticultural Areas, or AVAs, to define growing regions distinguished by geographical and terroir features.

There are over 140 AVAs in the United States, including Napa Valley in California, Willamette Valley in Oregon and the Finger Lakes in New York. AVAs can extend beyond state boundaries, like the Columbia Valley which extends from Washington into Oregon.

Unlike the French AOC, American AVA laws only establish growing area boundaries and do not govern which varietals can be grown or vineyard and winemaking practices.

U.S. wine regulations include the following:

If a wine label carries the name of an AVA, 85% of the grapes must come from that AVA.

If a wine label carries the name of a county, 75% of the grapes must come from that county.

If a wine label carries the name of a state, 75% of the grapes must come from that state.

Some states vary on this law, such as California, where 100% of the grapes must come from California to carry the state's name on the label.

When a wine label carries a vintage, 95% of the grapes must be grown during the stated year.

When a wine label carries the name of a grape variety, the wine must be made from at least 75% of that grape variety.

Discover Floor Standing Wine Racks

If you are a wine lover and live in an apartment, floor standing wine racks are the best choice in lieu of the traditional wine cellar.

Nowadays wine racks come in a wide variety, holding anywhere from six to hundreds of bottles. They can enhance your kitchen/dining area/bar as they are manufactured out of various materials to match your taste, furniture and decor.

Wood, metal, and wrought iron are only some of the many materials used to make floor standing wine racks.

Some of the most efficient, inexpensive, easy to use and maintain are the wire wine racks.

Why invest in a floor standing wine rack?

Wine is a special beverage and demands proper care. Storing it at the right angle and temperature is the key to its maintenance.

Floor standing wine racks are designed to store wine at the right angle -- that is horizontally. In this position the wine is in contact with the cork, keeping it from drying out and getting air in the bottle, which would negatively alter the taste if allowed to occur.

Most old red wines have sediment, which means one must avoid shaking/moving the bottle in order to preserve the wine. Wine racks hold the contents in a stable fashion to avoid movement.

Temperature is another factor which determines the wine's proper storage. The optimum temperature is 50-55F.

Wire wine racks are the best choice if you don't have a floor standing wine rack cabinet with regulated temperature. A 10 degrees variance will not affect the wine, but sudden changes from warm to cold may cause the wine to age prematurely.

Wire wine racks are a good choice because they let the air circulate and keep the temperature down. They are easy to assemble, lightweight and very durable.

Wire wine racks like most other racks can have their top shelf converted into a table to store wine glasses, decanter, serve cheese or display the wine which would be served with diner.

Floor standing wine racks give a note of sophistication to any room. They make a good conversation topic and tell your guests that you not only appreciate wine but you know how to take care of it.

Wine has become the most fashionable drink, now a glass of red wine a day is even being advocated by some doctors for health reasons... so, go ahead, invest in as many floor standing wine racks as you need to ensure your and your wine's good health.

Enjoy!
